    It’s not every day that you go shopping for a new home. Buying a house is a decision that can sometimes take months to ponder over. There are many factors to consider when buying a home. The same factors apply when you are looking at homes for sale in Prince William as well.

    When you are considering buying a home on sale, these are some good factors to keep in mind:

    1. How easy is it to commute to and fro? Is it well-connected? What modes of transport are available?

    2. Does it have a garage? You need it for a car, of course, but a garage can be useful for storage as well. Besides, your car can get broken into. Cars can get stolen – even in good neighborhoods.

    3. How far do you need to go to do your shopping? If it’s quite far, you would spend a lot of time commuting and you would need to plan way in advance.

    4. What kind of natural lighting does it have? If your natural lighting is too less, you will be using artificial lighting in the daytime, and that will add to your electricity bill. Too dark a home will make it feel like a cave.

    5. Is there a backyard? Does it need a lot of maintenance?

    6. How many bathrooms are there in ratio to the bedrooms? What are the bathrooms like? Have you checked out the piping and the drainage systems?

    7. What is the security level of your home? Is it easy to break into? Are the surroundings usually well-lit up at night? Windows should not be on street level. Pools need to be properly fenced in and the backyard too – just to prevent children or pets from wandering onto the street.

    8. What about storage space inside the house? Are there plenty of cupboards? If not, you will need to invest in them, and that adds to your moving in costs.

    9. What about schools in the neighborhood? It would be much more convenient to have your children’s school close to the house.

    10. If you are planning to do some work at home, you need to have some office space to work with – a study or some nook to work in – with lots of good lighting.

    11. How big is the living room with respect to your family size? If you have a large family, then not having adequate living room space will cut into your being able to have proper family time together.

    12. Does it need a lot of fixing up in order to moving into? This would need to be factored into your costs.

    13. Are all the documents, legal papers, etc. in order? Ensuring this would save you a lot of headaches in the long run. Is there any past record that you can check out about the property – any sort of undesirable legal history that you are getting saddled with unawares?

    14. Whether you’re buying the house as an investment, that is – to rent out to tenants, or you are buying it for yourself to live in, you need to also look at the maintenance and upkeep. Is it going to cost a lot of money to maintain?

    15. Can you take out a mortgage on this house? Are there any reasons why this would be difficult?

    16. Very importantly, how do you see yourself living there after a year or so? Do you see yourself and your family happy, glad you made the decision?

    There are probably a lot of other points that you can think of, but these are some good points to start with, as you look for a home to buy in Prince William county.
